POLITICO JUST EXPOSED A MAJOR VOTING LOOPHOLE — AND IT’S RAISING EYEBROWS
They said it never happens. They called it a conspiracy theory. They said voter fraud was vanishingly rare, that election security concerns were a cover for voter suppression, and that anyone who worried about noncitizens voting in American elections was either lying or paranoid.
Then New Jersey found 6,600. Then a British national pleaded guilty to voting in Texas across five elections over twelve years. And now Politico — that reliable organ of the Democratic-media establishment — has quietly published the admission that blows up every argument they’ve been making.
“It’s the honor system,” said New Jersey’s own election administrator. “There’s little to stop noncitizens from registering to vote if they want to, or even by mistake.”
Read that sentence carefully. Not a conservative commentator. Not a Republican opposition researcher. The administrator of New Jersey’s election system, on the record, explaining that the entire framework preventing noncitizens from voting is essentially a pinky promise.
Politico adds that election officials from both parties believe New Jersey’s 6,600 figure dramatically understates the actual problem — because the automatic registration system has been running since 2018, and Sherrill’s disclosure covered only a single year. The cumulative total of noncitizens swept onto New Jersey’s voter rolls through eight years of automatic registration is unknown. The state is refusing to hand over the data that would answer that question.
And it’s not just New Jersey. Ada Ngozi Otuka, a British national living in Texas, registered and voted in five separate American elections between 2012 and 2024. She didn’t get caught by the system. She confessed on her naturalization application. The system never flagged her. The honor system held exactly as well as honor systems typically hold — which is to say, not at all when someone decides not to honor it.
Brit Hume said what everyone already knows: “Maybe it’s time for commentators and politicians to stop scoffing at people worried about noncitizens voting in US elections.”
The scoffing has been deliberate. Every time a conservative raised concerns about election integrity, the media deployed a coordinated dismissal — no evidence, rare if at all, you’re a conspiracy theorist, you’re trying to suppress votes. That dismissal required the public to ignore the New Jerseys and the Ada Ngozi Otukas and the 270,000 noncitizen registrations identified across four cooperating states. It required trusting that the honor system was sufficient to protect the most important civic act in a democracy.
It wasn’t. It isn’t. And Politico just said so.
Here’s the principle that Ward Clark got exactly right: if even one person votes illegally, that’s wrong. Full stop. The acceptable number of illegal votes is zero — not 400, not 6,600, not however many years of auto-registration produced in New Jersey before someone noticed.
The SAVE America Act exists to replace the honor system with an actual system. Pass it. Before the next election proves the point again.
A DEVASTATING BOMBSHELL — Trump Backs a Nationwide Sharia Law Ban, Igniting a Fierce Battle Over America’s Constitution
A declaration from Donald Trump has reignited one of the most contentious cultural and constitutional debates in American politics. The president has said he would support prohibiting Sharia law in the United States, putting a divisive question back at the center of the national conversation: Is America confronting a genuine threat to its legal system, or is the growing campaign against Sharia creating a new battle over religious freedom?
Trump made his position clear during an August 26, 2026, interview with conservative commentator Glenn Beck. Asked whether he would support a law prohibiting Sharia, Trump responded affirmatively and criticized what he described as the growing influence of Islamic law in parts of Western Europe. His comments added momentum to a broader Republican effort to challenge the use of Sharia within American institutions.
The debate is no longer limited to campaign speeches. Republican lawmakers have introduced resolutions and legislation addressing Sharia and the application of foreign law in American courts. Supporters say their objective is to reinforce the Constitution as the supreme law of the land. Critics counter that American courts already reject legal rules that violate constitutional rights and warn that singling out Islam could deepen suspicion toward Muslim Americans.
The central question is whether the latest political push will produce a meaningful change in American law—or intensify a constitutional dispute that has repeatedly resurfaced over the past two decades.
Trump Makes His Position Clear
During the August 26 interview, Beck asked Trump whether he would support a “No Sharia Law Act” for America.
Trump answered that he would support the idea, declaring that the United States should have “no Sharia law.” He also pointed to London and Paris as examples of places where he believed Islamic law had become an influential part of daily life.
The remarks gave the issue renewed prominence ahead of the November midterm elections, as Republicans and Democrats compete to define the country's priorities and draw contrasts over national identity, immigration and constitutional protections.
Trump's statement was a clear expression of political support for a ban. It did not, by itself, enact a nationwide prohibition or establish that Sharia had replaced American civil law in any part of the country.
That distinction is essential. A president can endorse a legislative proposal, but changing federal law generally requires action through the legislative process and must comply with constitutional limits.
The debate also turns on what lawmakers mean when they use the term “Sharia law.” The concept encompasses a range of religious and ethical guidance within Islam. It is not a single, universally agreed-upon legal code that all Muslims interpret or practice in the same way.
For some lawmakers, the term refers to the possibility that religious rules could be imposed through government institutions. For many Muslim Americans, it also refers to personal religious observance, including prayer, charitable giving, fasting and ethical conduct.
Those differences in meaning have become a central source of disagreement.
Republicans Push the Issue Into Congress
Trump's comments came amid a wider Republican effort to make opposition to Sharia a legislative priority.
On September 3, 2026, Rep. Keith Self of Texas introduced House Concurrent Resolution 116, a measure denouncing Sharia law in the United States and opposing its implementation. The resolution was referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
The proposal asserts that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and that no competing legal framework should override the rights and protections it guarantees. Its supporters argue that Congress should state clearly that American constitutional principles must remain paramount.
However, the resolution's procedural status matters. It was introduced and referred to committee; it had not become a nationwide ban. A concurrent resolution also differs from a bill designed to create enforceable federal law.
Republican lawmakers have advanced other proposals addressing foreign law, religious legal systems and the authority of American courts. Their provisions differ, and their legal effects depend on the precise language and legislative status of each measure.
Supporters say these efforts provide additional safeguards against the enforcement of rules that conflict with constitutional protections. Critics question whether such additional measures are necessary, given that courts already have established standards for rejecting foreign judgments, contracts or arbitration decisions that violate American law.
The disagreement is therefore not simply about whether the Constitution should prevail. It is also about whether new legislation would address a demonstrated legal problem and whether its language would treat religious communities fairly.
Does Sharia Actually Govern American Courts?
One of the most important questions in the debate is whether Islamic religious law currently has authority over American civil institutions.
The United States does not operate a national legal system governed by Sharia. American courts apply the Constitution, federal statutes, state laws and established legal principles. Religious rules do not automatically become binding civil law simply because an individual or community follows them.
There can be situations in which courts consider foreign law or review private agreements involving religious principles. But those arrangements do not give a religious legal system authority to override the Constitution.
Courts can refuse to enforce contractual terms, foreign judgments or arbitration outcomes that conflict with constitutional rights, applicable statutes or public policy. The legal question is generally whether a particular agreement or decision satisfies American law—not whether a person privately follows a religious tradition.
A Washington Post analysis published October 8 reported a sharp increase in anti-Sharia bills and public rhetoric during 2025 and 2026. The newspaper found that lawmakers introduced at least 39 bills and resolutions targeting Sharia during those two years, compared with 48 proposals introduced over the entire period from 2010 through 2024.
The report also noted that lawmakers who supported some of the measures did not identify specific examples of Islamic law being imposed on state civil institutions.
That finding does not mean every concern raised by supporters is necessarily insincere. It does, however, highlight a central issue: whether the legislation responds to a documented problem or seeks to prevent a hypothetical scenario that existing constitutional safeguards already address.
The Constitutional Test: Religious Freedom and Equal Treatment
Any nationwide effort to prohibit Sharia would face important questions about the First Amendment, which protects religious exercise and restricts government establishment of religion.
The Constitution does not allow religious doctrine to supersede American law. At the same time, the government cannot simply prohibit a religious community from voluntarily following its beliefs because those beliefs are religious.
That distinction becomes especially important when legislation explicitly names one faith.
Legal challenges to an Oklahoma measure approved by voters in 2010 illustrate the issue. The amendment sought to prevent state courts from considering Sharia or international law. A federal court blocked its implementation after finding serious constitutional concerns about its singling out of Islam.
The case did not establish that religious law could override the Constitution. Instead, it demonstrated that the government must respect constitutional limits when deciding how to treat religious traditions.
Many later proposals have used broader language concerning foreign law rather than explicitly naming Islam. Such measures still require examination of their wording, purpose and practical effects.
A law that prevents courts from enforcing any rule that violates constitutional rights addresses a different legal question from a law that specifically targets one religion. The distinction could prove central to any future nationwide proposal.
Muslim Americans Push Back Against the Political Rhetoric
The renewed campaign against Sharia has drawn criticism from Muslim leaders and civil-rights advocates, who argue that political rhetoric often fails to distinguish religious practice from attempts to impose a separate legal system.
An Associated Press report published in October described Muslim Americans pushing back against renewed anti-Sharia messaging from Republican politicians ahead of the midterm elections.
Muslim scholars emphasize that Sharia is interpreted in different ways and can refer to religious guidance on worship, charity, personal conduct and moral responsibility. It does not necessarily mean a government-enforced legal code.
That distinction matters because Muslim Americans, like members of other religious communities, may voluntarily follow religious teachings while remaining subject to American civil law.
Critics argue that portraying Sharia as an expanding system of government control without evidence of such a development can create an inaccurate impression of Muslim life in the United States. They also warn that sweeping rhetoric may encourage suspicion toward an entire religious community.
Supporters of restrictions respond that their goal is to protect constitutional rights and ensure that no religious or foreign legal system can supersede American law.
Those positions are not identical, and the public debate often becomes less precise when they are treated as if they were. Protecting constitutional supremacy is a legal principle; treating ordinary religious observance as a threat is a much broader claim that requires separate justification.
Why the Debate Is Intensifying Before the Midterms
The timing of Trump's declaration is politically significant. With the November midterm elections approaching, the dispute gives candidates another opportunity to draw contrasts over immigration, national identity, public safety and religious liberty.
For Republicans, opposition to Sharia can reinforce a message about constitutional supremacy and resistance to what they describe as the influence of incompatible legal systems.
For Democrats and civil-rights advocates, the issue creates an opportunity to challenge what they see as unnecessary legislation and rhetoric that risks stigmatizing Muslim Americans.
The electoral implications, however, cannot be determined simply by the intensity of campaign messaging. Voters may weigh the issue differently depending on their priorities, their views on religious freedom and their confidence in the existing legal system.
The political focus on Sharia also competes with other concerns, including inflation, health care, immigration enforcement and the costs of the conflict with Iran. Whether the issue becomes decisive in individual races remains uncertain.
What is clear is that the debate has moved beyond a single interview. It now involves presidential rhetoric, congressional proposals, constitutional questions and a broader national argument over the relationship between religion and government.
What a Nationwide Ban Could Mean
The practical impact of any proposed ban would depend on its exact wording.
A narrowly drafted law could focus on preventing courts from enforcing foreign judgments or agreements that violate constitutional rights. Such a measure would need to be evaluated against existing legal protections and the potential for duplication.
A law explicitly prohibiting religious practice or singling out Muslims for different treatment would raise far more serious questions about religious liberty and equal treatment under the Constitution.
These are not interchangeable approaches. Any proposal would need to distinguish between coercive attempts to override civil law and voluntary religious observance protected by the First Amendment.
The distinction could also affect ordinary legal matters involving marriage, divorce, inheritance, contracts and private arbitration. Courts already have mechanisms for examining whether such arrangements comply with American law.
Before a new nationwide prohibition could be evaluated responsibly, lawmakers would need to specify what conduct it would prohibit, how it would be enforced and how it would avoid infringing constitutionally protected religious practices.
The Real Battle Ahead
Trump's declaration has given renewed energy to a campaign that was already expanding through Republican legislative initiatives and election-year messaging. Yet a presidential statement and a congressional resolution do not amount to an enacted nationwide ban.
The next stage of the dispute will depend on whether lawmakers advance binding legislation, how they define the conduct they intend to prohibit and whether the resulting measures withstand constitutional scrutiny.
For supporters, the objective is to reinforce the principle that the Constitution remains the highest legal authority in the United States. For critics, the concern is that a campaign framed as protecting constitutional order could target a religious community without establishing a corresponding legal problem.
Both the legal details and the distinction between religious practice and government authority will matter more than the intensity of political slogans.
The central question is not whether American law can be overridden by religious doctrine—it cannot. The question is whether a new nationwide ban would close a genuine legal gap or create new conflicts over religious freedom and equal protection. That is the constitutional test facing Washington as the debate moves into its next phase.
