RANDE GERBER TRIED EVERYTHING TO SAVE HIS SON — WHAT PRESLEY’S FINAL YEARS REVEAL IS DEVASTATING

Presley Gerber's final photos reveal happy family memories with mum Cindy Crawford | Metro News

For years, Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford lived with a fear that no parent ever wants to face: watching their child struggle while knowing that love alone might not be enough to save him.

They tried treatment.

They tried therapy.

They tried rehabilitation.

They tried different approaches as Presley Gerber battled addiction and mental-health problems over the course of years.

And according to a source close to the family, they “tried everything possible” to help their son.

But on Sept. 20, Presley died at just 27 years old inside a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica.

The official cause of death has not yet been determined. Authorities are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, while toxicology results remain pending.

Now, as more details emerge about Presley's final years, the tragedy is becoming less about the famous family he came from — and more about the long, exhausting fight he and his loved ones were trying to win.

His Parents Had Been Fighting This Battle for Years

Presley was not someone whose struggles suddenly appeared in the weeks before his death.

His sister, Kaia Gerber, recently described his battle with drug addiction as a decade-long struggle in Vogue's September 2026 issue.

She explained that his addiction affected the entire family, saying that when something like that happens, it can “level everyone.”

For a family that had traditionally kept private matters behind closed doors, Presley eventually became the person willing to talk openly about what was happening.

Kaia said she was deeply proud of him for doing that.

She also described him as a kind of teacher — someone who showed the family that hiding painful experiences does not necessarily make them disappear.

That makes the latest revelations about his final years especially painful.

The family wasn't ignoring the problem.

They were living with it.

And they were trying to find a way through it.

“They Tried Everything Possible”

According to a source close to the family cited by People, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber spent years helping Presley seek treatment.

That reportedly included therapy, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and numerous other approaches described as homeopathic therapies.

There was also professional support around Presley in the months before his death.

TMZ reported that he frequently traveled with a sober coach who provided around-the-clock support.

That detail is difficult to reconcile with any simple narrative that Presley was simply “left alone” to deal with his addiction.

There were people around him.

There were treatment efforts.

There was family support.

And Presley himself continued searching for answers.

Presley Was Still Trying to Save Himself

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of his final years is that Presley did not appear to have simply given up.

He repeatedly talked about wanting to get better.

In one of his final social-media posts, he described undergoing an ibogaine treatment for addiction and expressed hope that it would be the last treatment of that kind he would ever need.

He also wrote about fear, faith, healing and the possibility of finally confronting the problems he had been carrying.

His family responded publicly with messages of love and encouragement.

Cindy called him a “warrior” and said she was proud of him.

Kaia wrote that she was extremely proud of her brother.

Presley responded with messages of love to both of them.

Those exchanges now carry a painful significance.

At the time, they were messages of hope.

Today, they read like a final glimpse into a family still believing that recovery was possible.

His Final Public Appearance Was Almost Impossible to Read Differently

Just months before his death, Presley appeared alongside Cindy and Rande at a June 11 event in Malibu.

The family was there in support of Presley as he participated in a discussion focused on mental health.

According to TMZ, Presley spoke about his past struggles with medications and addiction and described the freedom he felt after becoming honest with himself about what he was experiencing.

There was no obvious public sign that this would become one of the family's final appearances together.

That is one of the cruelest aspects of sudden loss.

Photographs preserve a moment.

They do not reveal what comes next.

Then Presley Went Back to Treatment

The final chapter appears to have moved quickly.

According to TMZ, Presley arrived at the Santa Monica facility shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, accompanied by a friend and a personal coach.

Sources told the outlet that his family had recently discussed Presley returning to treatment but did not know he was going to that particular facility.

The next morning, emergency responders were called to the facility.

Presley was found unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 20, according to reporting based on medical examiner and dispatch information.

Santa Monica police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has said additional testing is needed before the official cause and manner of death can be established.

The Los Angeles Times reported that detectives are also investigating the source of drugs potentially involved in the death. Police have said there is no indication of foul play at this time.

The Details Presley Left Behind

What makes Presley's story different from a typical celebrity tragedy is how much of his struggle he documented himself.

In 2023, he spoke about depression and mental health and described mental health as a “24/7 job.”

He created Mental Health Mondays, hoping to encourage conversations about issues people often hide.

Later, he discussed prescription medications, anxiety and panic attacks, and the difficulty of finding the right path through treatment.

People reported that Presley had seen as many as 15 psychiatrists and had been prescribed multiple medications for anxiety and panic attacks.

In December 2025, he posted about his medication use and explained that recent losses had contributed to where he was emotionally.

His mother responded publicly:

“Presley — we love you and you are not alone.”

Those words now feel painfully significant.

Because whatever happened inside the final months of Presley's life, the public record shows that his family knew he was struggling — and they were trying to support him.

The Story Is Not Simply About Fame

It would be easy to look at Presley Gerber's life and see only privilege.

He was born into enormous wealth and fame.

His mother was one of the world's most recognizable supermodels.

His father was a successful businessman.

His sister became a major model and actress.

But addiction does not become simple because someone has money.

And treatment does not guarantee recovery because a family can afford it.

Presley's story shows something much more difficult: a person can have family support, professional treatment, public encouragement and multiple attempts at recovery — and still remain in danger.

That is precisely why the family's experience has resonated so strongly.

What His Final Years Really Reveal

The most devastating revelation may not be a single event.

It may be the pattern.

Presley kept trying.

His parents kept helping.

His sister kept supporting him.

Professionals were involved.

He sought treatment more than once.

He talked publicly about his struggles because he hoped other people could learn from his mistakes.

And yet, at 27, his story ended inside a rehabilitation facility.

That does not mean every treatment effort failed.

It does not mean his family failed him.

And it does not establish exactly what caused his death until investigators complete their work.

It does show how complicated addiction and recovery can be — even when a person is surrounded by people who love them.

For Rande Gerber, the final images emerging now are not simply those of a famous father who lost his son.

They are images of a father who had spent years trying to help his child find a way back.

And for Presley, his final years reveal something even more heartbreaking:

May you like

He was still looking for that way back.

Until the very end.
