SHOCKING NEW DETAILS EXPOSED IN HAYDEN PANETTIERE’S DEATH — What Really Happened Inside That Greenville Apartment?

Hayden Panettiere suffered 'cardiac arrest' after feared 'overdose': 911 audio

The final hours of Hayden Panettiere’s life are now coming into sharper focus — and the newly released investigative report paints a far more disturbing picture of what happened inside the Greenville apartment where the actress was found unresponsive.

Panettiere, 36, was discovered on the morning of August 16 after spending time in South Carolina with her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach.

What happened next was a frantic attempt to save her life.

And now, newly obtained records reveal what investigators found inside the apartment, what happened before the 911 call, and what Hayden’s family told authorities in the aftermath.

The details are heartbreaking.

THE 911 CALL CAME AFTER A TERRIFYING DISCOVERY

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s investigative report obtained by FOX Carolina, Panettiere and Brian Hickerson had arrived in Greenville from Los Angeles the night before her death.

The following morning, the two reportedly woke up around 10 or 10:30 a.m. They ate cereal together while Hayden got ready in the bathroom.

Hickerson later returned to sleep on a sofa bed.

Then his brother Zach arrived.

According to the report, Hickerson was eventually awakened and went to check on Hayden.

That was when everything changed.

He reportedly found her face-down and unresponsive on the sofa bed, with her legs crossed beneath her.

The report says Hayden’s body had turned purple.

Hickerson and his brother immediately attempted to revive her. Hickerson administered two doses of Narcan, while the brothers performed CPR and called 911.

Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after 1:50 p.m.

They continued advanced life-support efforts for roughly 30 minutes, including establishing an advanced airway and using other emergency measures.

But nothing worked.

Hayden was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

THEN INVESTIGATORS FOUND THE PILLS

The scene itself raised even more questions.

Investigators reportedly discovered a prescription bottle labeled “Adderall” sitting on the kitchen table.

But according to the coroner’s report, the bottle did not contain Adderall.

Inside were blue pressed tablets and a cut straw.

Testing later indicated that the pills and the straw were positive for fentanyl.

Investigators also found a small bag containing a white powdery substance inside a sunglasses case in Hayden’s suitcase.

Another straw with residue was reportedly discovered inside a makeup bag.

And inside a small lunchbox in the refrigerator, investigators found glass vials along with prefilled and empty syringes.

Those discoveries now form part of an investigation that extends far beyond the apartment itself.

HAYDEN HAD JUST LEFT REHAB

Perhaps one of the most painful details is what happened only weeks before her death.

According to the investigative report, Panettiere had recently completed a two- to three-week stay at a rehabilitation facility in Malibu.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, told investigators that Hayden had struggled with addiction since her early 20s and had attended multiple rehabilitation programs over the years.

Her death therefore came during a period when she was reportedly trying to confront a struggle she had battled for years.

Her mother, Lesley Vogel, later described Hayden as a fighter and said her daughter had been transparent about her addictions and repeated attempts at rehabilitation.

That history makes the newly released timeline especially painful.

Hayden had been trying to recover.

She had sought treatment.

And then, only weeks later, the emergency call came.

WHAT THE AUTOPSY REVEALED

The official cause of death is now known.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office ruled that Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine.

Her manner of death was ruled an accident.

The autopsy found no trauma that contributed to her death.

But the medical conclusion did not end the investigation.

Instead, it opened another question:

Where did the drugs come from?

THE INVESTIGATION HAS NOW MOVED TO LOS ANGELES

Federal investigators have reportedly been examining whether Panettiere obtained illicit or counterfeit pills from a Southern California supplier.

The Los Angeles Times reported that DEA agents and local investigators have questioned people about the circumstances surrounding her death and were examining the possibility that she had taken counterfeit oxycodone before her death.

The DEA also searched Panettiere’s Los Angeles home on August 25, according to TMZ, looking for evidence involving black-market controlled substances and potential sources of the drugs.

Reports have also described investigators examining communications involving a possible drug supplier.

But there is an important distinction here.

The coroner has established the toxicological cause and ruled the death accidental. That does not establish who supplied the drugs or prove that a particular person caused Panettiere’s death.

The investigation remains open.

ABC News reported that federal investigators were examining whether the fentanyl came from South Carolina or whether Panettiere may have brought drugs with her from California.

BRIAN HICKERSON WAS THERE — BUT AUTHORITIES HAVE NOT ACCUSED HIM OF CAUSING HER DEATH

Because Hickerson was present when Panettiere was found, his role has inevitably attracted public attention.

But the documented facts are more limited than some online speculation suggests.

According to police records and reporting, Hickerson and his brother were the people who discovered Panettiere and attempted to save her. Hickerson administered Narcan, and the brothers performed CPR while emergency services were contacted.

Authorities have not publicly concluded that Hickerson caused Panettiere’s death.

His attorney previously said the death remained under investigation and urged people to allow investigators to complete their work.

That distinction is especially important as the investigation continues.

THE DETAIL THAT MAY STAY WITH PEOPLE THE LONGEST

Perhaps the most haunting part of the newly released report is not the list of substances.

It is the timeline.

Hayden had traveled from Los Angeles to Greenville.

She had plans for her birthday.

She had reportedly hoped to visit her daughter, Kaya, in Ukraine afterward.

And according to the report, she had recently come out of rehabilitation.

Then, sometime that afternoon, the person who had been sitting with her only hours earlier was calling for emergency help.

The actress who had grown up in front of millions of viewers — first as a child performer and later as the star of Heroes and Nashville — was suddenly at the center of a frantic medical emergency that could not be reversed.

Her death was ultimately ruled accidental.

But the questions surrounding the source of the drugs remain.

And investigators are still trying to determine how the substances that killed Hayden reached her.

HAYDEN’S STORY DIDN’T END WITH THE HEADLINES

There is another layer to this tragedy.

Hayden had spent years publicly discussing addiction, alcohol use, postpartum depression and the enormous pressures that accompanied growing up in Hollywood.

Her memoir, This Is Me, also explored painful parts of her life, including addiction and the death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere.

She had spoken openly about the effort required to recover.

In a 2023 interview with Women's Health, she described herself as having been “drowning” before entering treatment herself.

That history makes the new investigative details difficult to separate from the larger story of her life.

This was not simply a sudden Hollywood tragedy.

It was the final chapter of a struggle Hayden had spent years trying to survive.

And now, with the coroner’s report revealing what happened inside that Greenville apartment, the picture is becoming painfully clearer.

The official finding answers one question: what caused Hayden Panettiere’s death.

But another question remains for investigators:

Who supplied the drugs — and how did they reach Hayden in the final days of her life?

That part of the story is not over yet.
